Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Of all the people gathered here this morning no two of us are alike. God has given each of us special gifts (talents). If used well, these gifts will enrich our own lives and the lives of others. But which of us can say that we have made full use of the gifts of grace and nature that God has given us? Have we not at times left them unused, or, worse, misused them?

First Reading:

By today's standards the woman at the centre of this reading would hardly be called a talented person. Yet she is held up as a model.

Second Reading:

Since they don't know exactly when the Lord will return, Paul urges the disciples to be always ready lest they be caught unawares.

Gospel:

The parable of the talents tells us how best to await the Lord's return.
