Drumconrath Parish Bulletin 9 January, 2011.

The  Baptism of the Lord

Today we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus.
Jesus, the Sinless One, joined the queue of sinners, and was baptised by his cousin, John, in the waters of the Jordan. He did so in order
that he
might free us from the power of sin. Let us pause to call to mind our sins, and our need for purification and liberation.

First Reading:

Here we are given a portrait of a true servant of God. It is something realised perfectly in Christ, and something to which his followers ought to aspire.

Second Reading:

This contains a reference to Jesus' baptism, and is an example of the early Christian preaching to non-Jews.

Gospel:

At his baptism, Jesus' true identity was revealed, and he was given power for the mission he was about to begin.

Statement of Accounts

Our bishop recommends that each parish publish a statement of accounts at the end of the year.
Hop
efully the summary balance sheet distributed to houses during the week is to people's satisfaction.

As has been stated in the past the Sunday plate and the priests offerings account is sufficient for the day to day expenses of the parish. The parish savings (weekly envelopes) account is reserved for capital expenditure and thankfully all our bills are paid with €56,000 in reserve.

Early this year it is hoped to begin work on the refurbishment of the parish house and this will make heavy demands on this fund in the coming years.
Over
-all our financial situation is extremely healthy and this is due to the extraordinary generosity of yourselves over a long number of years.

For this and for all the support to your parish in many and different ways a sincere word of thanks to everyone
